Steps to Becoming a Nationally Recognized Trainer Steps to Becoming a Nationally Recognized Trainer The Health and Fitness Alliance has teamed up with the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario so you can become HFA Certified as well as register with your province and receive national recognition and *special insurance by taking their national exams, evaluations and following the national fitness guidelines. It's easier than you think! Step 1 Prepare yourself for the National Exam by taking HFA's Master Fitness Theory Course either: Online In the Classroom Step 2 Register to write the National Exam. The National Exam costs 70.00 to write. That fee goes directly to the respective province the day of writing. To book an appointment contact either the BCRPA or the OFC via the contact links below: The British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association or The Ontario Fitness Council Either request to have it proctored or go to their respective offices listed within the 2 links above. * While waiting for your exam results which typically take 2 weeks, plan ahead and take your first aid and CPR which is another requirement. BCRPA & OFC Registered Fitness Leaders are required to have current CPR and First Aid certifications at all times. Fitness Leaders are required to have a minimum of CPR-A certification and either Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid certification. Step 3 Submit BCRPA or OFC Fitness Leader – Registration Form ($95.00 fee) Step 4 Now it's time to choose a Specialty Module: 1. HFA's Group Fitness 2. HFA's Weight Training 3. HFA's Personal Training Step 5 Once you have completed your Specialty Modules with HFA as well as your Practicums, Evaluations and ICE Exams now it's time to register with the BCRPA or OFC. To become provincially registered in your new specialty module, you must submit proof (copies, not originals) of the following: Current BCRPA Registration Certificate in Fitness Theory Current CPR and First Aid Certificates Course Completion Certificate in a specialty module from your independent course provider Completed ICE package with instructor/evaluator signatures and dates Any examination scores required for your chosen specialty module Provided all documents are in order, you will receive a new BCRPA or OFC registration certificate and wallet card in the mail as well as instructions on how to maintain your Registration with BCRPA or OFC. Now you are both HFA Certified & a Nationally Recognized Fitness Professional.
